The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) 2022 Summit organised in Samarkand (Uzbekistan) from September 15 to 16, 2022. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired the 22nd SCO summit of Samarkand.
•This was the first in-person summit since SCO summit 2019 held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SCO Summit was cancelled in the last 2years
•Mongolia, Belarus, Iran and Afghanistan attended the SCO Summit 2022 as Observer Nations this year.
•Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey attended the Summit as dialogue partners.
•SCO has decided to sign a memo with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar to designate them as dialogue partners.
•The leaders of the member states of the SCO signed the Samarkand Declaration at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State.
•The declaration states that the SCO will be headed by India for the next period (2023).
India's Bilateral Meetings
•India-Russia PM Narendra Modi during a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Uzbekistan pressed him to end the conflict in Ukraine soon, saying "today's era is not of war
•India-Turkey The leaders reviewed bilateral relations and appreciated recent gains in bilateral trade. They also exchanged views on regional & global developments. India has had tense ties with Turkey's criticism over the Kashmir issue.
•India-Iran Both the countries discussed connectivity through Chabahar and energy cooperation. But they did not confirm whether India intended to restore oil imports that werfe cancelled in 2018-19 due to the threat of US sanctions.
